Can you give me some thoughts on my novel?

Okay so this is how it starts. Valarie's Parents are driving to Val's dance recital and they get into a horrible car accident.(I know cliche) Tim (Val's best friend) tells her about it after she is done preforming and they get into his car and rush to the hospital. She is at the emergency room waiting for the news from the doctor. She sees this guy her age come out of a hospital room and looks directly at her and then walks into the next room. He is a healer. But he can only heal people when they are on the line of death and deserves to live for a purpose. He saves Val's fathers life (who was a horrible drunk) and let her mother die. Val doesn't know the reasons for the choice he didn't save both she just knows he can save people.The healer can't explain anything to her. So now my question is.. should she fall in love with the healer? Or should it her purpose in the book is to find out why her mother died and not her father?

I don't think the accident was cliche, but I do think having your character fall in love with the healer is. I'd scrap that idea altogether
