which type of running is more effective for burning fat?
running at a medium speed, no incline, not feeling the burn in my legs and able to breathe through my nose without opening my mouth
or pushing as far as i can go, high incline, high speed and feeling very puffed out.
i know the second is best for endurance, but what's best for weight loss and burning fat
The best way to determine this is to get a heartrate monitor. You can purchase one fairly inexpensively now-a-days. Follow the instructions and do a HR test and then determine what your "zones" are. Baiscally, fat burning takes place at a lower heartrate than most people think. Long and steady gets those results.
Running as hard as you can is actually not good for endurance...we run most of our long runs at a pace about a minute to 1.5 minutes SLOWER than racepace.
You will find yourself doing progressively longer runs in a what we call zone 2.
Running short intervals your body burns the immediately available carbs (your breakfast etc). then it moves on to stored supplies, but also utilizes protein. As your distance increases, do not decrease carbs too much...regardless of all the "anti-carbs" propoganda, they are what fuels you and if you continue to work out without replenishing your system, your body WILL go into starvation mode and you will not lose weight. Also, as your bosy will burn protein along with fat make sure you get some of it also.
Look at the Paleo-diet for a great way to combine trainingwith a diet that optimizes your carb. usage as well as your body's ability to burn fat.
