Question about buying Chitosan?
I would like to buy chitosan but did some research on it, and some chitosan can actually be naturally laced with arcenic. How can I go about picking a safe chitosan?
If you want to know what I am using it for to answer this question, it will be used as a phosphate binder, not a weight loss aide. Thanks!
No, there would not be any sufficient amount of Arsenic in shellfish (which is the source for Chitosan), plus the FDA and GMP have very strict guidelines for limits of harmful chemicals like that (especially if they are naturally occurring).
If you're concerned about contaminants in products, then make sure you shop with a good quality company that would regularly test their products to verify that they don't have high enough levels of contaminants like that. The most important thing is to make sure the company has a good rating with either the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or USP (U.S. Pharmacopoeia), as those are the main quality assurance organizations (USP is for the U.S., GMP is for the U.S. and worldwide).
