After centrifugation process on leech oil extraction, how to purify soluble component to pure oil?.?
Thanks michealhobbsphd for your answer. Need more information on how to purify this lipids soluble component to pure clean oil & possble others thats usable in medical practice. Further, after obtaining the oil, the left over soild, how to make it to powder form?. I think this leech powder is used in the cosmetic development as an ingrediant and in chinese medicine too. Could anyone explain to me about this solid waste, could it be use further?. Thanks...
To purify the oil you can use a separatory funnel and separate using an inorganic solvent. Use the organic layer (normally the bottom layer but to test take a small sample and mix with water on a dish, the aqueous layer will be soluble in water of course and the other layer is the organic layer (the oil)). To form the powder you can heat the oil (organic layer) over a heat bath and then crystallize in an ice bath. You can recrystallize by repeating the heating and cooling steps or not. To dry the product you can let sit for a day or 2 or you can do a suction filtration. Hope this helps!!
