What is Coriolis force for?
A sealed capsule orbits the Earth. The capsule is a cylinder filled with viscous oil. The cylinder spins around its axis, Ω=1, and the oil inside is naturally at rest with respect to rotating cylinder. Radius of cylinder is 2.
A small but massive m=1 ball is released in oil very near the axis of the capsule, and centrifugal force begins to push the ball outwards toward the wall of capsule. At some moment of time the ball is half-way at distance 1 from the axis and also 1 from the wall. At this moment, how much time left before the ball finally reaches the wall?
Viscous drag force is proportional to velocity:
F = -1*v
Ignore the buoyancy (the ball is very dense, and accelerating balls disobey Archimedes law anyway).

This problem does not go further than solution of quadratic eqation.

I may have a lot to re-learn about the coriolis force, but I know you have a penchant for clean well-lighted answer to seemingly difficult questions.
The coriolis force is perpendicular to velocity.
Fc= -2Ω v
Friction force is parallel to velocity
Ff = - v
Gravity= centripetal force
Fg = Ω^2 r
Note: both Fc and Ff have a velocity component and are at right angles.
Fc +Ff = Ffc = √( (-v)^2 + (2Ω v)^2)
Substituting in Ω = 1 and solving
Ffc = v √5
Also note that the force will be
θ = arctan (1/2) behind perpendicular.
θ = 26.56 degrees
Ffc ≈ Fg -- The net forces will be nearly balanced, nearly in equilibruim. Ffc will be almost equal and opposite of Fg
Approximate by
Ffc = Fg
v √5 = Ω^2 r
substituting Ω = 1 and solving
v = r/√5
The weight will spiral out at a 26.56 degree angle (Logarithmic spiral) with the velocity proportional to the radius.
We now note that the radial velocity (based on the 26.56 degree angle) is .447 (sin(arctan .5)of the overall velocity, ergo
v.rad = r (sin(arctan .5)/√5
dr/dt = r /5 ..... (lol, I didn't see the two √5's coming)
dt = 5/r dr
t = Intergral 1 to 2 of (5/r) dr
t = 5 ( ln 2 - ln 1)
-------> t = 3.466 in whatever units you are using.
I'm sure you could get a more accurate number by using your rootfinder -- I can't.

lol, this is simple aerodynamics. Unwind this thing and imagine it in a regular coordinate system. It is F.lift + F.drag = F.gravity. It is just a glider. See: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/glider.html
The interesting thing about the problem is the fixed ratio of lift to drag (unlike real planes) creates a fixed steady state glide angle: 26 degrees. That is space shuttle type glide angle. Basically comes in like a rock.
The fact that gravity is gradually increasing as the glider approaches the ground should have a de minimus effect on the glide angle (second order). It just causes an increase in speed
