When you take Synthroid must you also take Iodoral for it to work effectively?
DR prescribed Synthroid and a compound capsule of Iodoral (some type of iodine) to take w/it. Never taken either one b/f...he said my Thyroid is low, hence slow weight loss. He say's the Iodoral has to be taken for the Syn to work? Problem is the Iodoral is VERY expensive and has to be done thru a compounding pharmacy....which he happens to own. Any one w/exp. help me please?
Not true. Iodine is very important to thyroid health but too much iodine can worsen hypothyroidism as can too little. Synthroid may not work if your liver does not convert thyroid storage hormone T4 (synthroid) to active thyroid hormone T3 effectively. Many find this to be the case and switch over to natural desiccated thyroid which contains T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin. And if you do need iodine in your diet..hello cheap iodized salt!
