Can I freeze some extra fruit pie filling?
I made some pie filling...using various berries and corn starch etc. I have some extra that i would like to put back for another pie. Can I freeze it? Thanks for the input.
Sure! Absolutely no reason not to! Sounds like a good idea to me!
One warning, though. If you have already cooked the mixture (including the cornstarch), it will not work out as well. Cornstarch loses its thickening properties on prolonged or repeated heating. Reason: the starch molecules break down on prolonged or repeated heating, and lose their ability to "bind" or thicken the mixture. So you might want to freeze the extra amount before bringing the mixture to a boil, which needs to happen for thickening to occur.
