Advanced Diet Weight
What is a good diet for weight training?
I am looking for specifics on how I should carry out my diet during training. I lift weights 5 times a week and consider myself an advanced weight lifter. I also have practice 5 nights a week for over 2 hours with a game on the weekends so usually about 6 days of cardio training a week. I eat about six small meals a day but have had little guidance on what to eat in those meals. I also consume protein shakes twice a day to receive my adequate protein intake. I would just like to know what specifically I should be eating in my meals and when to maximize results from all of my training. I am 22 years old, 6'4" and 225 pounds.
Protein shakes are no magical potions, they cannot instantly build muscles, thus they are expensive, eat simple foods that are high in protein: lean meat, beans, seafood, fish fillet, egg whites, low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat unsweetened yogurt etc.
You are doing very well with the weight-training, but still, nutrition has the more key role in muscle-building, consider yourself to consume 200-250g of protein per day, of which 33-42g of protein per meal. Check the labels, go to your local health shop, grocery stores, look for high-protein but relatively low-calorie foods, measure your protein intake and you're good to go.
Remember, your muscles aren't built during the weight-training, they are built in the kitchen.
P.S. Don't limit your nutrition only to high-protein foods, you still need to consume (preferably complex) carbs and (preferably unsaturated) fats.
